Robotic surgery using the Da Vinci surgical robot is state-of-the-art treatment for numerous conditions. Our urologists have extensive experience with robotic surgery and have conducted over 1000 cases. At Urology Specialists of Oregon we offer a full spectrum of services for urologic cancer of the kidney, prostate and bladder; female pelvic floor reconstruction; and reconstruction of the urinary tract for benign disease.
We maintain the highest standards to ensure our surgeries afford the best possible outcomes for patients by participating in outcomes research and publications. This allows us to provide world class care right here in Bend.
The robot consists of a set of robotic arms that attach to specialized tools that are positioned inside the body. The surgeon sits across the room at a console that controls the arms. Assistants stand next to the patient to assist the surgeon during the case.
The surgeon does the surgery. All movements are conducted by the surgeon, and there is no “automatic” setting that enables the robot to do anything on its own.
Robotic surgery allows for less pain, blood loss, faster recovery and an improved cosmetic effects by avoiding large incisions. Robotic surgery also allows for faster recovery compared to traditional open surgery.
Two decades of clinical studies support that robotic surgery is as safe as open surgery. The main issue that relates to surgical safety is the skill and experience of the surgeon and the nature of the surgery. Our local hospital is equipped with a state-of-the-art robotic operating suite, and boasts an excellent surgical nursing team with specialized robotics training.
