Matthew Simmons, MD PhD

Dr. Simmons is a urologic oncologist with expertise in minimally-invasive and robotic surgery. He attended medical school at Stanford University, and completed residency at the Cleveland Clinic. He remained on staff at the Cleveland Clinic as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Urologic Oncology for 3 years. He moved to Bend in January 2013, and conducts laparoscopic and robotic surgery at St. Charles Medical Center. Since 2005, he has conducted more than 800 laparoscopic and robotic surgeries. Of these he has conducted over 400 partial nephrectomy surgeries, over 200 laparoscopic and robotic prostatectomy surgeries, and over 100 laparoscopic and robotic surgeries for reconstruction of the kidney, ureter, and bladder.

He is certified by the American Board of Urology, is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and is an active member of the American Urological Association and the Society for Urologic Oncology. He is an active reviewer of numerous journals including the Journal of Urology, European Urology and Urology and Urologic Oncology. He has over 50 peer-reviewed publications and has written five book chapters on the subjects of prostate and kidney cancer.

Marta Johnson-Mitchell, MD DO

Dr. Marta Johnson-Mitchell is the only fellowship-trained female urologist in Central Oregon. She practices general urology, specializing in voiding dysfunction and female urology.

Originally from the Seattle-area, she is a 2004 graduate of Oregon State University. She attended medical school at Des Moines University in Iowa, and completed her residency in Urological Surgery at the Detroit Medical Center. She completed her fellowship training in Female Urology and Neuro-Urology at Metro Urology in Woodbury, Minnesota.

Shelly Fitts, PA-C

Shelly spent several years in Alaska working on commercial fishing boats after she graduated from High School. She completed her undergraduate degree at Utah State University in Forestry and Natural Resources Management, while she worked as a wildland firefighter. She relocated to Bend in 1998 and worked as a counselor and eventually became the wilderness director for the Northstar Center, a residential treatment program for at-risk youth. She completed a wilderness first responder course during her employment at Northstar which was the catalyst for her interest in Medicine. She then was employed at the Kids Center as the Events Coordinator, and eventually moved to Portland, Maine for 2 years with her family, to complete her Masters in Physician Assistant Studies. She is a tri-athlete and enjoys reading, projects, multiple outdoor activities and traveling. She is constantly entertained by her husband, and two sons, 10 and 7. She has been practicing as a urology PA since 2007.

Tim Krigbaum, PA-C

Tim spent his younger years in Arizona, growing up in Phoenix and then moving to Tucson to attend University of Arizona where he obtained a bachelors degree in Microbiology and minor in Chemistry. He received his physician assistant training through Arizona School of Health Sciences in Phoenix and graduated in 2001. His first position after graduating was in family medicine at a rural clinic for three years prior to moving to Oregon. Once in Oregon, he began practicing urology and has done so since 2005. When he is not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two young children, skiing, mountain biking and enjoying all of the wonders of Central Oregon.
